Aida Ramirez & Davide Sanz
A free flamenco in Tarifa. Born from the meeting of a guitar and a dance on a summer night, it is a living flamenco, fueled by the Andalusian soul and the raw energy of Tarifa. Between deep roots and creative freedom, their art breathes passion.

Aida Ramirez & Davide Sanz

Some encounters leave no room for doubt. That of Aida and Davide, on a summer night in 2019 in Tarifa, was one of them. Since then, these two vibrant souls have been weaving, four hands together, a project that fully reflects who they are: free, hybrid, rooted… and in constant motion, like Tarifa itself.

Aida, instinct and duende

Aida was born in Málaga, in a home where music was almost a second language. Her father, Pepe Ramírez, a passionate tenor, gave her a name that Verdi had immortalized: Aida.

At just three years old, her tiny hands touched the keys of a piano for the first time. The University Choir of Málaga became her playground, with her father by her side, immersing her in the magic of opera and the secrets of backstage life.

Then came dance. Flamenco, hip-hop, classical ballet, contemporary, cabaret… she tried it all, as if each style offered her a different shade of freedom.

On the backseat of the family car, Aida grew up lulled by the voices of Lole y Manuel. But her universe stretched further: Lauryn Hill, Camarón, Rihanna, and Beyoncé also made her heart beat faster.

Davide, the guitar at heart

Davide was born in Algeciras, the land of Paco de Lucía. His father, a jazz and blues musician, had even lived on the same street as the maestro. At home, music was everywhere, shared with his twin brother — also a guitarist — his lifelong companion on the journey.

At nine years old, his father enrolled him in guitar school. Rock or blues weren’t on the syllabus… it was flamenco that welcomed him, soon intertwining with his other musical passions.

With his brother, he played everywhere: in the streets, in bars, in impromptu bands. He composed, explored, moved from rock to blues, from rockabilly to flamenco, like changing landscapes while remaining himself.

His influences are as eclectic as he is: The Doors, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, but also Diego Pozo “El Ratón”, the guitar soul of Los Delinqüentes.

One night, at Tarifa’s castle after a Jorge Pardo concert, he walked away with an autograph. A few words scribbled that would stay with him forever: "Estudiad, cabritos“ -Study, lads-

A fusion born in Tarifa

August 2019. Aida was spending the summer in Tarifa, Davide was playing in a bar. They crossed paths, recognized each other. No words were needed: the connection was immediate. A few weeks later, Davide joined her in Madrid. But the city suffocated them: too much noise, not enough room to dream.

So they returned to where it all began. To Tarifa. Their home was a caravan. They didn’t have much, but they had the essentials: drive, faith, and the urge to create together.

The pandemic, for many a time of silence, offered them a suspended moment. A time to listen, to search for their path, to invent their own language.

They plunged into the soul of flamenco, into its multiple roots: nearly fifty palos, each with its rhythm, its color, its mood — Soleá, Tangos, Alegrías, Bulerías, Fandangos… From that foundation, they began to shape their own universe. They wove influences together, challenged conventions, reconciled styles. Their duo became everything at once: a refuge, a laboratory, and a stage open to the world.

Today…

Today, Aida and Davide continue their journey together. They live in the world they have built, driven by the light and energy of Tarifa. Partners in life and in art, inspired by their roots and by their time, they shape a flamenco that loves Lauryn Hill as much as it loves Camarón.

Their hearts are full of projects, songs waiting to be born, and ideas to share. The future belongs to them – and they plan to dance it, sing it, and play it in their own way.
